What Is Tantric Massage? How a Session Works, Step by Step

Tantric massage is a slow, mindful full-body massage combined with conscious breathing. Its goal is not to work on individual muscles but to help you relax deeply and become fully aware of touch. A session starts with a short conversation about your boundaries and a moment of calm, and ends with a quiet return to everyday life. Below we explain step by step what it looks like in practice – based on our salon, Rose & Wine in the Wola district of Warsaw.

What is tantric massage?

The name comes from tantra – a spiritual tradition that developed in India within Hinduism and Buddhism. Tantra treats the body and the senses not as an obstacle but as a path to greater awareness. Modern tantric massage, however, is much younger: it took shape in the West in the 20th century as part of so-called neo-tantra, and from the old traditions it takes mainly mindfulness, breathwork and respect for the body.

It differs from a classic massage in its goal and pace. In a therapeutic or sports massage, the focus is on specific muscles. In tantric massage, what matters is what you feel: the touch is slow, flowing and covers the whole body, and your only task is to let go and breathe.

How does tantric massage work? 5 key elements

  1. Breath. Calm, deep breathing is the backbone of the whole session. The masseuse often matches the rhythm of her touch to it, and you come back to your breath whenever your thoughts start to wander.
  2. Slow, flowing touch. The strokes are long and continuous, without hard kneading, so that the body stops tensing up in anticipation of the next movement.
  3. The whole body. The massage covers the body from head to toe – not just the back or neck – and is done with warm oil.
  4. Mindfulness. Both you and the masseuse focus on the here and now. That is why many people compare the session to meditation combined with massage.
  5. Boundaries and consent. You agree on the scope of the massage before the session and can change it at any moment. The word “stop” is always respected.

What happens during a tantric massage – step by step

Every salon has its own ritual, but a well-run session usually follows a similar pattern. This is how it looks at Rose & Wine:

  1. Booking. You book by phone at +48 501 705 155, via WhatsApp, Telegram or the booking form. If a room is free, we can also see you without an appointment.
  2. A short conversation. You tell us what you expect, what feels comfortable and what you would rather avoid. It is a good moment for questions – especially on your first visit.
  3. Shower. Fresh towels and a shower are waiting in a private room. For longer sessions we welcome you with a glass of wine, coffee or tea.
  4. Calming down. You lie down, the lights are dimmed and calm music is playing. For the first few minutes you focus on your breath – this is when the body switches off the everyday rush.
  5. Full-body massage. The masseuse works slowly with warm oil – among others, an oil with 24-carat gold. In the 90- and 120-minute sessions a hot stone massage is added.
  6. A moment of calm afterwards. You don’t get up straight away. There is time to rest, return to your normal breathing and take a shower before you leave.

Tantric vs erotic vs classic massage – what is the difference?

These terms are often mixed up, so we have put the main differences in a table.

Goalrelaxing muscles, working on paindeep relaxation, conscious awareness of the bodysensual relaxation and close touch
Pacevaried, often intensevery slow and flowingcalm, depending on the type of massage
Scopeselected parts of the bodythe whole bodythe whole body

Atmospheretreatment roomdim light, music, warm oilsdim light, music, warm oils

“Erotic massage” is a broader term – it includes, among others, nuru massage (see our guide what is nuru massage), lingam massage and 4-hand massage.

Does tantric massage include intimate areas?

This is one of the most common questions. In neo-tantra, a session may include massage of intimate areas – for men it is called lingam massage, for women yoni massage. It is not a mandatory element, though: the scope of the massage always depends on what you agree on before the session.

At Rose & Wine, you decide on the scope – you talk about it before the massage and can change your mind at any time. At the same time there is one clear rule: we do not provide sexual services. Tantric massage is a massage, not sex.

How long does a tantric massage take and how much does it cost?

A full tantric session needs time – for your first visit we recommend 60 or 90 minutes. At Rose & Wine the price depends only on the length of the session, not on the type of massage:

SessionDaytime priceWhat it includes
30 minutes300 zła short massage to try it out
60 minutes (Silver)350 zł / 90 €full-body massage, leg and foot massage, 24-carat gold oil
90 minutes (Gold)500 zł / 120 €everything in Silver plus hot stones and a welcome drink
120 minutes (Diamond)650 zł / 150 €the longest session: full-body massage including hands, head and feet, hot stones

At night the packages cost 50 zł more – for example, one hour costs 400 zł and two hours 700 zł. You will find all options in our price list.

How to prepare for your first tantric massage

  • Don’t plan anything right after the visit. Rushing is the biggest enemy of relaxation, and after the session many people feel sleepy and very calm.
  • Avoid a heavy meal just before the massage. A light meal an hour or two earlier is perfectly fine.
  • Don’t come under the influence of alcohol. It makes it hard to focus on your breath and on what you feel.
  • You don’t need to bring anything. Towels, a shower and oils are all provided.
  • Say what worries you. No experience is needed – the masseuse will guide you through the session step by step.

What you may feel during and after the massage

The first few minutes can feel strange: you don’t know how to lie, you wonder whether you are “doing it right”. That is normal – the body needs a moment to stop controlling itself. After that, most people describe:

  • deep relaxation and a feeling of warmth throughout the body,
  • a quiet mind, sometimes sleepiness,
  • a stronger than usual sensation of touch,
  • for some people – unexpected emotions.

Physical reactions such as an erection are completely natural during a sensual massage and there is nothing embarrassing about them. Our masseuses know this well.

After the session, many people talk about a “reset” – calm and lightness that last for the rest of the day. Remember, though, that tantric massage is not therapy or medical treatment, but a form of relaxation.

Contraindications – when to postpone your visit

Tantric massage is gentle, but the same limitations apply as to any other massage. Postpone your visit if you have a fever or an infection, skin conditions or fresh injuries, and shortly after surgery. If you have heart disease or thrombosis, are pregnant or have other serious health problems, consult a doctor first.

Tantric massage for couples

You can also experience tantric massage together. It is a good choice for couples who want to relax and feel close without any rush. Details and prices are on the couples massage page.

Yes. Tantric massage is a massage service, and salons that offer it operate legally. At Rose & Wine we have a clear rule: we do not provide sexual services.

Do I have to undress for a tantric massage?

Yes. The massage covers the whole body and is done with oil, so it takes place without clothes. You get fresh towels and can take a shower before and after the massage.

Do I need any experience?

No. Most of our guests come for a tantric massage for the first time. We explain everything before the session, and the masseuse guides you step by step.

Yes, at any time. You can ask for a slower pace, different pressure, a change of technique or to stop a given part of the massage.

How long does a tantric massage last?
